Let’s Build a Bridge and Bridge Some Relationships

On Sunday, February 12, 2012, I will be helping the mountain bike community by helping to build a bridge at Aliso and Wood Canyon Regional Park with my friends at the Share Mountain Bike Club.

Never heard of Share MTB? Well they’ve been around about 20 years and are deeply involved in the majority of trail building and maintenance around Orange County. Ever heard of any other mountain bike group around here that works this hard to help you go do what you love? Surely you’ve heard of the yearly Poker Rides. Ever considered maybe taking one day out of your life pick up a shovel and dig for an hour?

It’s not the first time I’ve helped out Share MTB. As a matter of fact, I helped out with at least a few trail openings in Orange County over the past year. And that’s just counting the past year.

Share MTB has put out a call for help on various message boards and to the STR community. They have been working hard on making this trail safe for ALL trail users.

Here’s a recent picture of the efforts:

I’ve never seen the person who runs the SoCalTrailRiders.org website, the “Godfather”, as he’s called in the STR world, show up to any trail work event. In fact, I’ve never even heard of the guy, also known as George Gonzales, also known as LBMTB even lead a mountain biking ride. Judging from his Facebook profile, it appears he’s more interested in fast cars and guns than riding mountain bikes.

Here’s a couple photos from his public profile on Facebook:

While talking to real friends about getting help for the trail work event at Aliso Woods this weekend, I bet them that the “Godfather” wouldn’t show up. I mean seriously, why would he show when he’s never attended a trail work event nor led a mountain bike ride? Seems like a pretty solid bet to me. But if I’m wrong, the Share MTB club is going to get a generous donation! Prove me wrong Georgey Porgey never ridey!

This is your “leader” STR community. Aren’t you proud? I mean really, aren’t you proud that somebody you may have never even met is “in charge” of this “so called” “mountain bike community”.

See ya on Sunday George. Well probably not, but if you do I’m gonna owe a few people some money. And I doubt even that will inspire you to do some good for the mountain bike community that you claim to have built. And maybe King George, maybe if you show up and help us move some big logs we might actually accept you into the mountain bike community as “The Godfather”. Haha… yeah right.
